水杉: 深根的記憶 (Dawn Redwood: Rooted in Memory)

The Lost Chinatowns of Santa Cruz

Co-created with kiki ong and elizabeth engle, 水杉: 深根的記憶 (shui shān: shēn gēn de jìyì) is a multi-media art project created in the interest of decolonizing public understanding of Santa Cruz history. The goal of the project is to create an accessible visual archive of research in service of community education. The project will begin by publishing a public facing website that bridges lost memory into contemporary media. By translating this media into digital and analog expression, 水杉 shui shān aims to decolonize the artistic process and dismantle the dominant narrative that normalizes westernization under the monolith of whiteness.
